"Reading is good" - even more so in new libraries

In one of our education projects in Mozambique, we not only provide training for teachers, but also infrastructure. A friendly learning environment can make a significant contribution to the children's progress.

"Ler é bom", meaning "Reading is goog", is one of three projects we are running in the East African country of Mozambique. We support children in primary schools in the province of Maputo in improving their reading, writing and arithmetic skills - through further training courses for teachers, the creation of libraries and reading corners and their equipment. This paves the way for further education and better opportunities in life for children in grades 1 to 3 of primary school.

For example, we have renovated buildings at De Fevereiro Primary School. Where previously stood a broken building with cracks in the floor, there is now a beautiful library. We equipped it with tables, chairs, shelves and books. The walls are now decorated with drawings and letters to motivate the students to read. We provide school materials for children who need them. Because reading is good. And reading in a new school library with sufficient school material is even better.
